ROAR, Outdoor event, will go ahead rain or shine

Last September saw Little Bushman & EWH team up for two sell out nights of vibrant psychedelic and soulful music at one of Wellington’s premier live venues, the San Francisco Bathhouse. Both bands and audiences alike enjoyed it so much they thought it best to take it on the road and bring it to the fans in Christchurch

"I'm pretty excited about these next shows with EWH - I reckon it’s a perfect eclectic match for the audience to bliss out on and the last SFBH shows were electrifying. It’s all about the fans... I wish I could be in the crowd, drowning in the frequencies - mean!" ..says LB’s Warren Maxwell.

This show marks the final performance in New Zealand for Electric Wire Hustle this summer before they head onto Europe for 6 months via stop offs in Australia and the USA. EWH are very excited to share some new material from their forthcoming sophmore album with the homecrowd before taking it international with performances at WOMAD in Adelaide and SXSW in Austin, Texas in March.

After the release of their 3rd studio album Te Oranga, Little Bushman wowed audiences throughout Australia, including the prestigious Byron Bay Bluesfest and are currently planning a return in mid 2012.

"We're mad excited about this year. SXSW is going to be nuts. Austin is so rich with music and the festival is a massive opportunity for us. We've been on lock down in the studio for months and we've got a load of new material we're looking forward to debuting on tour. Heading on the road with the Bushies is going to be an awesome end to summer. Playing alongside them is always awesome and freaky at the same time - like a little bit of Kaitaia fire!" says EWH's Taay Ninh

Both bands are looking forward to the opportunity to play in Christchurch where they will perform in the beautiful garden setting of Deans Bush, the location of Riccarton House that was badly damaged in the earthquakes.

"We really wanted to get down and see our people in Christchurch but have had such difficulty securing a venue! says EWH manager Hayley. Taste Events at Riccarton House have staged a series of outdoor concerts at Deans Bush to provide some entertainment and fun to Christchurch citizens and to help Taste Catering survive until the house can be rebuilt.

" They reached out to us just in time and everyone is really keen to support the cause." adds Hayley.
"We have traveled a lot during the last few years" says Taay "but this will be our longest stint away from New Zealand to date, so we want to leave everyone at home with something memorable.

Devilish Mary and The Holy Rolers (6.30pm till 8.30pm)

Imagine this if you will... you're in a small town dancehall, sometime in 1930s Texas. It's hot, the beer and the bourbon are flowing, and it's packed to the rafters with people wanting to dance away the hard times. All that's needed is the music to get them moving. Thankfully, Dev'lish Mary and her Lame Horse Layabouts are here, tuning up their instruments for an evening's wild and raucous country dance music. Blending foot-stomping Western Swing tunes with Gypsy Jazz stylings, fiery fiddle tunes and a few slow-dance torch songs, they'll have you smiling and swirling till you collapse in a dishevelled heap on the sawdust floor.

Devilish Mary (that's Miss Anita Clark to you) will be sawing up a Kansas summer storm on her fiddle, and stealing your heart with her soaring, sultry singing. She'll be ably assisted by John (Boy) Sneddon, thumping and slapping his Grandaddy's big double bass, and Mister Simon Gregory plucking and strumming on his shiny red guitar like a man possessed.

After a hard day in the cotton fields or the telegraph office, this is what everyone's been waiting for, to hear the hot new musical styles of the '30s, and forget their woes for one more evening... Dev'lish Mary and the Cold Hearted Scoundrels are here to play for you.
